Capcom Cup 2015 Announced, Prize Pool Increased To $500,000 Thanks To Sony Partnership

    The Capcom Pro Tour concluded today with the finals of Capcom Cup being held in San Francisco. 16 players qualified for the final event, which saw Momochi of Evil Geniuses taking top honors at the event and carrying home $30,000 USD. 

     

    After the prize giving ceremony, we were teased with a new version of the previously released gameplay trailer for Street Fighter 5. This trailer contained some new footage and teased a parry-like system and also hinted at the return of Charlie from the Street Fighter Alpha series.

    Street Fighter 4 producer Yoshinori Ono then took to the stage, dressed as Charlie, to give his thanks to the Street Fighter fans for making the Capcom Cup a success and announced that next year's event would be even better. Ono revealed that thanks to their partnership with Sony, the total prizes pool would be increased to $500,000USD. To put things into perspective, this year's prize pool was $50,000USD.

    For many years the fighting game community has dreamed of tournaments with prize pools to match those of the other games within the e-sports realm. With Capcom's present partnership with Sony, the future looks bright for many competitors worldwide.
