Trinigamers Guild Wars 2 Report - Madness Returns

The Mad King Thorn's terror has been unleashed on Tyria. In light of the season of Halloween, the game of Guild Wars 2 has been modified to reflect this season. Guild Wars 2 hasn't just gotten a cosmetic change in terms of skeleton over here and a pumpkin over there, there are new dynamic events and quest chains, new jumping puzzles and also unique items which can only be attained during this festival.

In the Guild Wars universe, festivals & events coming to Tyria is nothing new. Along with Halloween, there's Wintersday (Christmas), Easter, April Fool's Day, Talk Like a Pirate day. For each of these festivals/events, the game world is modified to reflect the change. This helps to make the game fresh and encourage players to play more. But, due to the static nature of Guild Wars 1, game developers were unable to make large changes to the game outside of cosmetics ones. For the most part, players were able to complete specific quests (most commonly found in Lion's Arch) to gain festival rewards. But, in Guild Wars 2 this has changed.

If you'r unfamiliar with the story of Mad King Thorn, Osawald Thorn was a former king of Kryta. He was known for his cruel jokes and violent outbursts. One of his most memorable acts as King, during a famine (which may or may not be attributed to him), he held an exquisitely large banquet for himself, while his people starved. Fed up with his violent reign, the villagers stormed his castle and killed him with a carving knife. But, even though he was killed, his soul went to the Mad Realm in the Underworld. Several Necromancers and Elementalist attempted to place seals upon Tyria so his soul would not be able to ever come back to existance, but on one day the Mad King Oswald Thorn's soul returns to Tyria. That day is Halloween...

For this Halloween event, the Mad King's influence isn't only in Lion's Arch, it can be seen & felt in various zones. With new dynamic events spawning which showcases new halloween creatures, pumpkins to carve and candy corn to mine, it is hard to ignore the halloween spirit. Special festival items can be traded in for the collection of Candy Corns and also unique pieces of armor. If you haven't seen the changes in Tyria, log in and experience them NOW before its over and you have to wait an entire year to experience the event again.

Arenanet has not released all of the Shadow of the Mad King quests and events just yet. They are broken up into four Acts. So far, Act 1 and Act 2 have been released, while Act 3 will be released on 28th of October and Act 4 on the 31st of October.
