Blizzard, Valve say Windows 8 bad for gamers

Windows is the primary development platform for many games on the PC side of the spectrum due to it's market dominance. With Windows 8, Mircosoft hopes to tighten down the hatches to ensure quality, in effect create a closed system. This is what Apple has done with their OS X operating system so it's not unheard of. Windows has typically been the most open and compatible operating system, a major reason for it's continued dominance.

Windows 8

“Windows 8 is kind of a catastrophe for everybody in the PC space. I think that we’re going to lose some of the top-tier PC. They’ll exit the market. I think margins are going to be destroyed for a bunch of people. If that’s true, it’s going to be a good idea to have alternative to hedge against that eventuality.” - Gabe Newell, Valve Co-Founder.

Rob Pardo, Blizzard's Vice President of Game Design said tweeted this on Wednesday, “Nice interview with Gabe Newell—‘I think Windows 8 is a catastrophe for everyone in the PC space’—not awesome for Blizzard either.”
