There is no denying that we are a country of pirates. Trini Playstation 3 owners can rejoice now that the Playstation decryption keys have been made public. Every software update issued by Sony can be dissected and neutered. All hardware on the Playstation can be fully accessed. You can have a fully updated, yet modded console. On the flipside, you can run whatever software you desire.
Online players beware, this does not stop Sony from banning your PSN account once you are discovered to be running a modded console.

Strangely enough, Sony did nothing to provoke hackers to release their last line of encryption, the LV0 codes. The issue arose when a group called "BlueDiskCFW" began to charge for it's custom PS3 software. The 'Three Musketeers' long time holders of the LV0 code did not like someone making money off their discovery, far less the hacking scene which is very anti-corporate. To even the playing field, they released the code. You can expect to see more groups release PS3 custom firmware without a fee attached.
As the life cycle of the PS3 winds down, this isn't going to be a huge loss for the company. We may yet see new life for the Playstation 3 as we saw in last generation's Xbox. There is nothing standing in the way of turning a PS3 into a game emulator, home theatre and living room media powerhouse. The Ouya might have some real competition on it's hands here.
