What's better than a free game? How about a free game that's a remake of a award winning franchise? After the release of Half Life 2, Valve also released a port called Half Life: Source based on the updated game engine. While most were pleased, some felt that the port simply did not take advantage of the engine. As a result fans embarked on an ambitious journey.

They would rebuild the entire game from the ground up, new code, concept art, models, textures, sound tracks, voice acting, level sizes and storyline tweaks. It may have taken eight long years to complete, along the way racking up Wired's Vaporware Award. After the long wait, it's finally finished and final.
The game will not require a purchase to play. Just a copy of the source engine, available for FREE on Steam. Black Mesa itself has been released via torrents. For those willing to wait the game will become available on Steam shortly via the Greenlight project.
