Valve revealed their DOTA 2 Store today with a final confirmation that the highly anticipated sequel the the game that sparked the Action RTS revolution will indeed be free to play. No doubt a signal of intent to genre leader League of Legends which is also FREE and funded by micro transactions. Unlike LoL all heroes will be free to access at all times and items in store will have no effect on game balance.

While Valve continues to work on including all original heroes, modders are busy at work on the Steam Workshop. Once an item is complete and up to standard it can be featured on the store. In Team Fortress 2's first year alone Workshop modders earned over $3.5 million USD from the sales of their items. This ensures a steady stream of new content on the store.
