Microsoft's Xbox 2 gaming console is set to debut May 12th on a 30-minute MTV special. Microsoft spent $14 million on media to launch the original Xbox, so it's anyone's guess what they'll be forking over this time:

The MTV special, hosted by actor Elijah Wood on May 12, will feature a performance by rock band the Killers. Athletes and celebs will show off the console's new features. MTV will air teaser spots prior to the event and screening parties will be held in countries in which MTV airs.

I dunno nah, this sound like the same thing Sega did with the DreamCast when it was unveiled on MTV and we all know what happened to that.

not that Xbox 2 coming up with the same fate but there must be a better place to show it than the morons of MTV.

And I rel hoping that 360 is the codename.

Yeah because they went foward in time and saw what happened.

It next to impossible to predict who coming on top in the next gen war because all the systems are ready and will come out in a short space of eachother. And most will have the same games. It all gonna come down to who is gonna
market their system better.

Microsoft's second generation Xbox has been the subject of much speculation over the last few months, as the videogame console nears its mid-May unveiling. But Microsoft has successfully kept the new Xbox all but a mystery - until now. A seemingly official picture of the "Xbox 360" has made its way onto the Web.

The image initially surfaced on the SomethingAwful Forums late Friday, where it quickly gained attention as the first legitimate picture of Microsoft's next-generation Xbox. Sources have vouched for its authenticity, however enthusiastic gamers won't receive official confirmation from Microsoft until May 12, when the new Xbox debuts on MTV.
