Last night I opened Doom3 for the first time in a few months. This was the game that took me out of my warcraft addiction, it was really nice reliving the experience.
The real reason behind me taking a shot at Doom3 again, was to do a test, to verify that my 'pc problem' was fixed by changing my powersupply. My answer was a definate YES!!!
Para gets technical
With doom3 in the past i used to get little jerks with many models on the screen, I said to myself ok, time to lower the graphics, but even at 640*480 I got the same problems a continuous jerk and yes my FPS did drop. Anyhow I noticed the same problem in all my games even those that I used to run perfectly eg Ravenshield etc etc Eventually after Pweffy had the same problem I thought It could be my PSU. After a very long time i got a 'good' PSU and now thigns are moving rather nicely!!
Benchmarking using timedemo1 i got a score of 32 with 1024*768 and Highsettings. Nothing to boast about BUT I'll be safe for any games built on the D3 engine for a while even if it means reducing the details a bit
(To do this bring down the console CTRL+ALT+` and use 'timedemo demo1' command)
End para gets technical
To end of the test, i loaded a save pt right b4 the last boss, killed him and viewed the cutscene where his body is being torn apart by the SC. The graphics look really good, i can't wait to get my hands on the expansion, but Im sure that HL2 will blow me away so much so that Ill forget about this little thing called the D3-Exp.
