For the longest while, Mega Man fans, after experiencing a slew of games in the Mega Man Universe, finally get a return to the series that started it all, with the long awaited Mega Man 9.

However, while most games tend to churn out sequels with the latest in hi-resolution graphics and surround sound to feed off of the power of next gen consoles, MM9 does quite the opposite- it's actually going back to its roots by returning to the 8-bit style. It will also be the first Mega Man game to feature a female Robot Master.

It will be available for download for the Wii Virtual Console, Playstation Network and X-Box Live respectively.

You can see a gameplay trailer here:

Hey, guys. Remember how God-awful the box art was for the American releases of Mega Man 1 and 2?

Well, apparently, Capcom caught on to that, so, in memory of the game going back to its roots, here's some 'boxart' for the game:

It's a bit of a 'joke' cover made by Capcom, somewhat in memory of the God-awful art that plagued the American covers in Mega's first outing.

I'm sure the genuine cover wouldn't look so grody.
But, as a Mega Man dude, I'd have to admit....that cover's pretty funny.

In any case, I'm hoping that this game ties up the loose ends that occur between the end of the Mega Man series and the start of the X series. I think a lot of people are looking for some form of closure here, myself included.

they said it wouldnt tie them in.

Anyway i think X is a totally different maverick hunter rather than an upgrade.

He is. Keiji Inafune said that X and Mega Man are two completely different entities.

In any case, I wasn't really referring to that type of tie in.
I was talking more along the lines of what happened to all of the original Mega Man series characters (Roll, Bass, Protoman, etc) before the X series took place. To date, only the fate of Dr. Light was really alluded to in some form (Maverick Hunter X makes it quite clear he died of sickness/old age).

Some suspect a cataclysm was responsible (Zero kills everyone before being sealed away), but I pretty much doubt it.
