go wired and just any generic 12-24 10/100 port switch. your needs don't require anything more than that.

get a generic 8 port switch for around $100TT(price last time i checked)

7ft cables are also sold which are factory made as patch cords so they are pretty decent quality. These cost <$25TT a piece.

If all the PCs are on the same table, 1 switch and these cables should be all you need. However, make sure that all the PCs have Wired NICs

i agree with mojo but i think an 8 port switch does not leave enough room for growth. if you just looking for something cheap and immediate then go with the 8 port. but if you intend to grow and have a little extra cash get a switch with more ports.

if we talkin growth... look into gettin a gigabit switch one time... also if you plan to be moving lots of data between the machines go gigabit (1.0Gb/s or 10/100/1000)... especially if u have to continually be copying games etc... we dont want u talkin half day just to set up a few games :)

I agree with Phenix31tt.
Gigabit is the way to go. This is especially handy if ur going to use some kind of HD imaging software (Symantec Ghost) for PC maintenance. Although 10/100Mb is more than enough to share internet and play games, you simply don't want tie yourself down to such legacy networking standards. Buy the good stuff from the start!

100 gonna be slow if u gonna be ghosting...but for normal use its not bad...dont expect the fastest data transfer tho

All the advice here was great but...

stick to ur original plan if its just 3-4 systems a switch 8 - 16 port will work fine. Gigabit switch won't make sence if u dont have gigabit cards...
