Aside from the PS3, which will likely be fixed via a software update. All existing Blu-ray 1.0 devices will not be able to play extra features available in 1.1 and future discs. All 1.0 devices cannot be upgraded.
Sony's excuse for only now revealing this to early adopters is because of the disc format war. Because HD-DVD was able to launch earlier they were forced to rush Blu-ray to the market unfinished. To reduce costs at launch Blu-ray standards were lowered significantly. There is concern that some 1.0 devices will not be able to play HD films properly due to buggy software implementation and higher requirements of discs in the future.
When Blu-ray 2.0 comes in October with internet interactivity the 1.0 and 1.1 devices will not be able to play the extra features.
