OK. I need help. I got an external Hardrive thingy and it says, does not need any drivers.
Slight problem tho. When i plug it into my comp. I see a message in the bottom right hand corner where the time n stuff is and it tells me" USB device NOT recognised".. weird.. so i open that and i see all my ports and it says Unkown port. SO what to do to get this working? is it like a USB driver thing? or something else. Any ideas...plllzzzzz

Usually when these things happen its due to a power problem or a fault on the HD install.

agreed....

also if its a drive and enclosure individually... u can try disconnecting the drive and connect the enclosure alone... it should be detected and installed (if its working)... then the prob would lie with ur drive or how u connected the drive.

if is a laptop drive enclosure it'll prolly come with 2 usb cables... make sure BOTH are plugged in.

also if u plugged it into a hub try pluggin it directly into the pc to eliminate any pwr problems

Back USB ports in preference to Front USB ports.

...or u might have usb1.0 and not 2.0...is ur pc new? if it is then try connecting one of the usb cables to the computer and one to an external usb power source(like an adaptor) see if it works

That has happened to me too.

Connect to another computer.

If
the problem does no re-occur it is the computer fault else it is the External HD's fault in which case u box it up and shit its ass back. I bought 3 AComdata External HD and one gave the same symptoms. Their tech support said it is a rare but knonw issue with the usb controller on the External HD and that they would replace or repair the device.

Else
The problem is with your computer. Try a different USB port.

If
It works properly, the problem is with that port and there is nothing much you can do.

Else
Re-install you computer (mother board ) chipset drivers. If you don't know what that is, ask I'm sure someone in here will help you figure it out.

If that fails
Go into the CMOS setting and check to make sure you USB be ports are Activated and set to run at high speed. If that fails your mother board is defective and should be replaced. It might be possible your mother board has compatibility issue with that model External Hd and a BIOS update will fix the issues.
