The USA based National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences will present Sony with a Technology and Engineering Emmy Award for their Sixaxis Controller which lacks rumble effect but has Bluetooth connectivity and motion feedback.

A perplexing turn of events for some since the entire gaming industry considers the Wii-mote to be the most innovative controller in years. But then.. who knew video game controllers could win Emmys?

ridiculous....

nothing innovative aboutt his controller, the shell design is evolved fro mthe SNES, button layout is standard as well. Wireless controls were standardised by the 360 (pushed heavily by Nintendo's wavebird, but microsoft handled the standardisation) and the tilt sensing thing... blatant rip off.

but hey what do any of us know? we are but simple gamers and consumers right?

According to a Sony press release, their Sixaxis PS3 controller won a Emmy Award from the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.

LAS VEGAS, Jan. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) today announced that it has been recognized by the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences with a Technology and Engineering Emmy Award for the PLAYSTATION(R)3 (PS3(TM)) computer entertainment system's SIXAXIS(TM) wireless controller. -- http://prnewswire.com/news/index_mail.shtml?ACCT=104&STORY=/www/story/01-08-2007/0004501397&EDATE=

However investigative reporting turned up an ugly lie. The Sixaxis never won any award.

The Emmy was jointly awarded to both Sony and Nintendo for past controllers. Specifically Nintendo's D-Pad and Sony's original Dual Shock. -- http://www.emmyonline.org/emmy/advmedia_winners_release.html

While this does clear up things, I still feel unresolved. Who else wants the Wii-mote to win an Emmy Award now?

it seems that there is still a conflicting story, one person from that same organisation says one thing, then someone else says the info is incorrect etc...i believe the second person but what if sony recieved data from the first person

it cant mean that sony fabricated the report, they could have jsut been misinformed.

I can't see how they would be mislead to thinking that they won a joint award. That fact was always on the table.

sony didnt win the emmy for the ps3 controller
they won it for the dual shock of the ps2 controller and nothing to do with the ps3. Sony jumped the gun on that one.
