In an attempt to revitalize CounterStrike valve has released an update which include a new radar. The new radar uses a new background and symbols to provide a better interface for the players, its good to know that valve keeps adding in stuff based on newer ideas. Not everyone is adept to the cryptic old radar, which imo wasn't noob friendly.

The new radar features many extras that help players with finding the bombsite, the bomb itself, allied players, enemy players under special circumstances (ally watching enemy for a prolonged period of time) and a SICK camera view. In addition crouching has been reworked some what but I havnt had time to explore this much.

Valve will not be releasing a similar update for CS 1.6, hopefully this update and the others to come may encourage the dominant leagues to make the move to CSS. I personally can't wait to see what other advancements Valve has in store, thus far they are making good on their claims to provide a better CS experience.

Soon, we'll be releasing the first in a series of updates to Counter-Strike: Source which will be focused on moving the core Counter-Strike gameplay forward.

The second facet of this release will be a completely reworked radar system. There will be a significant change to the aesthetics of the radar, but there are also some fairly significant gameplay ramifications to the new system. One example: when you look directly at an enemy for a long enough time for their name to appear on your screen, everyone on your team will be able to see that enemy in the radar. We're planning on releasing this first update in about two weeks.
