View Full Version : how do I utilize more than one internet connection?
Suppose I have access to 2 internet connections via 2 Ethernet NICs on my Windows based PC.
Is there any software that can act as a proxy server on my PC so that depending on the type of traffic, it would use either of the two connections?
e.g. http through connection 1 and ftp through connection 2.

The program say that I have 2 default gateways and that is likely an error in configuration and require that i choose only one to work with. :S

Does bridging the connection help in anyway?
AT work we make use of multiwan routers(hardware), if all else fails you might want to try that.
i figure that a multiwan router is the most cost effective solution, compared to setting up a linux box to act as a router.

im far from an expert but if you have two dls routers connected to ur pc you can allow and block ports on each one.
after you block/allow which ones on each router why dont you bridge the connection. that migh work
Bridging connections simply joins 2 LANs. So if PC connected to 2 LANs, it creates a bridge joining both so that hosts on either LAN can communicate with each other.
Either way, the bridge will also have to be configured with an IP, subnet mask, and default gateway, and guess what!!! only one default gateway is allocatable!!!
The bridge does not solve the problem. Sorry.

When buying the dual wan/multiwan router ensure that you get one with a good feature set, load balancing etc.

Try this. Use NIC Express to team the NICs in laod balacing mode. Unless u have @ least 1 intel nic, in which case, its a simple option in the drivers. Now you will not get double the speed for a single stream but multiple streams will move faster suchs as Torrents or download managers.
