All the hype about flat screen televisions is a waste of energy as these next-generation televisions have a way to go before they can rival their cheaper counterparts [ Cathode Ray Tubes ] in performance or cost.

Even though flat panels are getting larger [ but still lighter than the largest CRT ] , added with the fact that they can be hung from walls, still does not measure up to the CRT when it comes to picture quality.

However, LCDs are great as desktop PC monitors because they don't have to refresh pictures rapidly but they don't work as well when used as televisions. Plasmas tend to lose brightness over time and don't offer images as sharp as those served up by CRTs.

All in all, consumers scrambling for sexy new flat-panel televisions may want to note : They don't deliver pictures as clearly as traditional tube TVs do.

2. It is KNOWN fct that CRT is superior to LCD and plasma, but LCD is cheaper than CRT and more size efficent, hence it became popular very fast.
