Coming in the first half of next year, AMD will show the world their new M2 Socket, designed for the next line of X2 and FX CPUs. Details on one of the first CPUs for the socket are available, the Athlon64 X2 5000+, a 2667Mhz CPU running on a blistering 333Mhz FSB with dual 1MB L2 cache. The end of the road is still a long way off for the earlier A64 sockets, as the Sempron is not going to be available for the M2 (initially), and there is still room for clockspeed growth on Socket 939.

Now its a weird thing to use FSB to describe the interface for an A64.. its a hypertransport bus that operates at 1GHz effective (bi-directional thus often reffered to as a 2GHz FSB) or for 754 pin 800MHz (or 1600MHz FSB)... how does 333MHz fit into this??? We all know that 1GHz hypertransport supports DDR400 and DDR333.... so WHERE DID 333MHz come from??? or is it they're making the scales comparison of DDR400 running at 200MHz (external clock or was it internal) so 333MHz 5x pumped is more like a 1665MHz (bi-directional) Hypertransport 2 bus (effectively a 3.3GHz FSB????

I can't really speak for the Hypertransport Bus capacity, most likely 333MHz refers to HTT, which when multiplied gives the frequency of the CPU.

You are correct to point out the difference between HTT and FSB. At present the HT Bus isn't saturated, with a HTT of 333 expect an odd number instead of our nicely rounded 2000MHz/1600MHz. 400MHz would have owned :)
