I suggest multiple wc3 servers incase 1 goes down. the topaz/wc3 server uses gdsl.myftp.org, gamers.myftp.org, an something else i believe. well you can just give that account to someone else who does be online plenty, an then set up the server to use mysql if it already isn't doing so, so that it can store the user accounts. from there use a crontab on the original server to export the accounts daily to another server (we go call this server "MC"). if at any time original server goes down (we go call this original server "WTMC"), then someone contacts MC OR an admin can remotely start up the wc3 server on MC, and then just login to the no-ip account that has the gdsl.myftp.org, gamers.myftp.org an whatever other things and change the ip to the MC server ip. from there now MC will be operating as original, with up to date user accounts, can be accessed via the same gdsl.myftp.org, gamers.myftp.org and whatever else.

that way whenever WTMC goes down, MC go be dey as a instant backup which will always be up to date and can be run remotely (if you want to, or you can simply call MC owner an have him start it).

just a lil suggestion, it really not complicated. most likely both MC and WTMC go done have mysql install, is just a matter of exporting the CDB to sql , creating db name pvpgn on both MC and WTMC, using crontab to import from a location (wherever you want the WTMC db to go) on original server, and then WTMC exporting from a location the latest db to MC via ftp.

MC and WTMC need to have mysql, pvpgn db, ftp server, crontab permissions, ssh access (if you want wc3 admins to start up server remotely).

just a lil idea. right now this is trini main wc3 server, if it goes down, ppl complain, hell i not even running the server an men complaining to me.

good luck.

This does exist. The db problems where people had to create new accounts were due to the original box being down. That db has since been extracted so now when one goes down a backup goes online with the same db.

Para has been working on getting the unix box back online, until then it runs on windows and will be a bit unstable.

its a good idea, ill setup a backup server @ java... that shouldnt be a problem...

I real sticking with setting up my nix box, so much so that the Hd still at work. Right now i busy burning dvds... just cracked open another spindle of 50...

Java as the backup sounds good?

java is a GL
people download/upload from java or use p2p apps.

that go cause a bit of lag. especially when it come to ppl using bit torrent in the GL. the upload speed is what matter the most oui. last time i talk to lokes i think he tell me that java bw being real used up and he's unable to upload taku eps from java, an pinkie had to do the uploads from home.

if you could dedicate some bw to just the server pc , and then run the backup on that, it go be cool. if it can't be dedicated then it go be a bad idea.

The server doesnt need much bandwidth at all, its main use of bandwidth are in the areas on logins/chat which doesnt really account for much.

The current server runs on limited bandwidth as well (at times). Keep in consideration that after a custom game begins the server bandwidth is not into play, its p2p right thru (confirmed by pvpgn developers)

With that said, also take into consideration that this server is going to be a 'backup' server, its just going to be up temp, the disaster that occured before is not a common thing.

true@going to be just a "Backup" server.

fix up in that case.
i just thought upload was really really bad by the way how lokes say java bw jumping up in steelband (he didn't exactly say jumping up in steelband...das just my wording :P )
