I must appologize to all the persons that actively use the gamers warcraft III server for the downtime. While attempting a much requested upgrade the server machine began moving quite gay and some where down the line the OS got messed up.
During that time I set up a temp server which didnt have any of the old accounts loaded. As a result you would connect but NOT be able to authenticate. That server went down and I put up another temp server on dialup (at home) and that didnt have ANY accounts either so once again you would have needed to recreate an account.
The Server uses FreeBSD as its OS, just slaping it into another PC and extracting the data is easier said than done. I tried using almost every linux distro avaiable to me but none of them could properly recognize the FreeBSD partitions. After redownloading FreeBSD 5.x, I finally got through and was able to pull off the database in its raw form as well as all the webscripts.
As a result of this failure I learnt quite alot about mounting, filesystems, backup of an offline mysql and alot about FreeBSD itself. Quite a nice learning experience.
Where are we now?
After retrieving the database of the unix machine i had to verify that they had the information, I imported the retrieved information into the the temp server. I ask that you verify that all information is there before i rebuild the unix machine. I dont want to format and loose any hope of getting lost data.
Something that bothered me was my lack of communication to you all, the server users during this downtime, though I kept scaR up to date I should have done the same to the users.
TSTT is still giving hassles with respect to disconnects, i have an idea with respect to that. My goal is to have this server up 24/7 with 0 downtime, you deserve that.
