AMD and Crytek announced that the 64-bit update to Crytek's and Ubisofts Far Cry, optimized for AMD Athlon 64 processor-based systems, is now available for download. This new version of Far Cry was designed on AMD64 technology and features exclusive 64-bit enhancements.
AMD also used the announcement to denounce the need for multi core processors for gaming by including the following short sentence; Because most games today are single-threaded, gamers performance needs will be best served with the single-core AMD Athlon 64 FX processor.
For the best possible performance AMD claims that the complete 64-bit set is required i.e. AMD64 processor, the recently released Microsoft Windows XP Pro x64 Edition operating system and 64-bit optimized Far Cry software. Gamers will notice larger and more detailed areas to explore, exclusive 64-bit maps, longer view distances, unique and exciting game object textures and a 64-bit exclusive barrel storage area that demonstrates impressive, life-like object physics movement.
