Trinigamers had the opportunity to work with Digicel Sportsmax, DirecTV and Heineken as they presented their El Clasico Viewing Party and FIFA 16 Tournament at Hutt Shutts Sports & Entertainment Center.
The FIFA tournament attracted familiar faces and new challengers alike. A total of 37 participants competed in the tournament with some players hailing from as far as Penal and one competitor coming from Tobago to participate. As is seemingly the norm, many more players showed up late and had to be turned away for arriving after the registration cut off time.
After a quick photo-op, the action got underway at 11:30 am with competitors assembled near the tournament stations to take in the action and as expected of a single elimination tournament, matches went quickly giving competitors very little room for errors in their gameplay.
“I not showing them no mercy this rounds, I come from quite down Ste. Madeline for this” said competitor Anthony Joseph as he waited for match to be called. Unfortunately for Anthony, his tournament life would be cut short when he was forced to forfeit due to an emergency which required him to venture back to the southland. He tied for a very respectable 7th place.
With time counting down to the highly anticipated football match, the tournament progressed until only two competitors remained, Bevon Julien and Civaughn Dimsoy. Bevon is no stranger to the FIFA community locally, having won last year’s local FIFA Interactive Cup, it came as no surprise that he made it to the finals.
Civaughn’s journey to the finals, however, was one that almost didn’t happen. As it turns out when his opening match was called, someone else came up and played it. The match was against well known local fighting game player Antonio Fermin, which saw Antonio winning, or so he thought. Civaughn informed the match officials of what had happened and after confirming with Antonio, both players faced off, with Civaughn winning quite handily. “I was outplayed from the very start “ noted Antonio after his defeat and elimination from the tournament.
Both players were now prepared to face off for the title of Sportsmax FIFA 16 Champion, however the final would have wait as it was now time for the El Clásico match. For the uninitiated, El Clásico is the name given in football to any match between fierce rivals Real Madrid C.F. and FC Barcelona. With supporters of both teams present, it made for some entertaining moments during close calls and goals from each side.
As El Clásico concluded, it was now time for the FIFA 16 tournament’s Grand Final matchup. Both competitors made their way upstairs to the assigned area where their match would be displayed on the giant projector screen for all to see. After 15mins of intense FIFA action, Civaughn Dimsoy emerged victorious to claim the title of Sportsmax FIFA 16 Tournament Champion with Bevon Julien having to settle for 2nd place in the tournament.
Civaughn Dimsoy receives his prizes for winning the Sportsmax FIFA 16 Tournament!
2nd place finisher, Bevon Julien receives his prizes from Sportsmax & DirecTV representatives.
Trinigamers would like to thank Sportsmax, DirecTV and Heineken for giving us the opportunity to be part of this great event.
